There are around 16,000 species of animals that are endangered; not only on land but in the sea as well. Some are endangered from the actions of humans, but others are because of their habitat or surroundings. The main causes of animal endangerment across the globe include habitat loss, diseases, poaching and climate change. According to Lazoo.org, “Recent estimates indicate that roughly one million plant and animal species are threatened with extinction in the next few decades.” To read more: Lazoo.org

Because of human actions like poaching or human-wildlife conflict, many land animals are at risk of becoming extinct. Poaching is when someone is illegally hunting or fishing on land that is under official protection. Human-wildlife conflict is one of the leading causes of endangerment in land animals. This happens when someone kills an animal out of spite or revenge or to maybe even punish the animal.

In the ocean, animals are also facing some of the same issues as land animals. Over-fishing, pollution, and changes in habitat are some of the leading causes of endangerment in marine life. This is affecting about 2,500 species that live in the ocean. This includes but is not limited to whale sharks, sea turtles, blue whales, manatees, and the sunflower sea star.
