“Well, fast food is affordable and very convenient for me. I’m tired from work and I don’t feel like cooking. I’ll just stop by Sonic on the way home”
Fast food like McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc. has played a major part in society. Many people eat fast food because of its convenience and prices. Those who work long hours a day can get a quick boost of energy, reduce hunger and stop skipping meals. Even though eating too much fast food is not healthy it does have advantages. The food they provide has tons of nutrients and vitamins the body needs. Also, many places have now added healthier options to the menu like salad, vegetables, or high-protein meats.
However, allowing yourself to consume too much greasy food can have a negative effect on the body which can cause a disadvantage in your life. The majority of the food has high amounts of fats, carbohydrates, and sodium. They can lead to tons of illnesses, such as death, diabetes, and even obesity. In some cases, the greasy food can cause your cholesterol levels to increase, clog your arteries, and affect your heart. Fried food or oil-based foods have extremely high sodium level that increases the blood pressure that could potentially affect your heart.
Furthermore, fast food frequently lacks important nutrients including fibers, vitamins and minerals that are necessary to the body. The body has 20 amino acids. The body naturally produces 11 of them whereas the other 9 is needed through the food we eat. If you don’t properly consume those 9 essential amino acids, your body is at high risk of impaired immune function, slow wound healing, hormonal imbalance, and digestive problems. In addition, fatigue, and poor mental health caused by the lack of nutrients can affect your life span resulting in death.
Fast food is indeed handy for many people, but there are also alternative options. You can make fresh healthy pre-made meals at home. Whole grains, lean meats, lettuce and fresh fruit and vegetables are all good sources of meal protein and nutrients. I recommend that if you’re going to eat high-fat foods eat it in moderation. For example, popcorn and dark chocolate are good options. The popcorn has little calories and high fibers whereas the antioxidants in chocolate help lower blood pressure and brain function.
