Have you ever thought about going into the pharmacy industry? Is it worth it? Do pharmacy workers enjoy their job? How hard was it to get into school or take the tests needed? Would you recommend it to the younger generation? Today, these questions will be answered by a pharmacist, Amber French, and a pharmacy tech, Shelly Miller.
Amber French, pharmacist at Rhodes and Robby Drugs as well as Frenches Pharmacy, attended Ole Miss Pharmacy School. When asked if French enjoys what she does, French stated, “Yes, I love being able to provide the help needed and knowing that I am doing something good for my patient.” French says that she worked very hard to get into Ole Miss but that if you put time and energy into it that it will pay off. French says that she would recommend pharmacy school any day and that all of it was worth it to be able to do what she does.
Shelly Miller, a pharmacy tech at Rhodes and Robby Drugs, worked a year of on-job training then took the pharmacy technician test for her national certification. When asked if she enjoys what she does Miller said, “Yes, I like working in an independent pharmacy because of the relationship you can build with your customers, and I also enjoy working with a team of amazing people.” Miller said that although the training was strenuous and hard, it was worth every minute. Miller said that she would strongly recommend going into the pharmacy industry to any student who is interested.
So, in summary, pharmaceutical training and school can be hard and strenuous but in the end it is worth it. To become a pharmacist, two years of undergraduate courses and four years of pharmacy school is required before you attend your residency. To become a pharmacy technician, a program must be attended after acquiring the pre-requisite courses.
