Have you ever wondered if other students are struggling in school the same way that you are? Students from all different majors struggle with many different things. Many come up with ways to help them study or remember topics for upcoming test, practical or presentation. Although the students providing tips today may have different majors than you do, you can apply the same aspects to your schoolwork.
Maggi Gilliam, a pre-nursing major from Hinds Community College, shared some ways to help students remember things she learned in class. Gilliam is a straight A student in all her pre-requisite courses at Hinds. Gilliam says that the best way she remembers information is “reading the chapter in the course book before class and then reviewing lecture videos after class.”
“I spend close to two hours daily reviewing material taught in the previous classes; this has proven to be the best way for me to prepare for my tests,” Gilliam said.
Caley Gatlin is a cosmetology student from Jones College and is excelling in all hands on and course work activities. Gatlin says that the best way to be motivated in class is to “find a mentor who drives your passion and believes in you.” Another way Gatlin excels in her coursework is constantly practicing and doing hands on work in class and out of class.
“I would not be able to withstand the daily class load of a cosmetology student without the support and help from my friends, classmates and mentors,” Gatlin said.
So, if you are struggling or feel overloaded in class, you are not alone. These tips from a pre-nursing major and cosmetology student may help you to succeed in class.
