An NFL player makes an average of $20 million a season compared to teachers who on average make $30,000 a year, police who make $40,000 a year and soldiers who makes $30,000. Americans love to watch and support professional football, but America does not benefit from it. In comparison teachers help students grow mentally and academically. Police prevent crime and protect the U.S. citizens by enforcing laws. Without soldiers, we wouldn’t be free here in America!
Professional football players’ duties are attending regular practice sessions, memorizing complex defense patterns and keep themselves in great physical shape. The NFL requires players to be at least three years out of high school to be drafted. While playing football is dangerous and requires a lot of time spent away from family at games and conferences, the pay is worth every second spent being a professional football player compared to what other important role models in America make.
Teachers are responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Teachers must have patience to deal with students and also parents. Teachers not only work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. they go home and grade papers and prepare lessons. Teachers not only make an impact on students academically, but also emotionally. Students become close to teachers and value teachers’ opinions. Teachers are one of Americas most underpaid and underrated occupations.
Police not only prevent crime and enforce laws, but they also save lives and prevent drug and sex trafficking. Police patrol assigned areas, respond to disturbance’s, conduct searches and observe suspicious activities. Police must do and see a lot of things that many individuals could not handle, including seeing the deceased, seeing abused individuals and investigating horrendous crime scenes. Police are extremely underpaid for risking their lives daily.
Soldiers do the unimaginable. From jumping out of planes to running into guns blazing, soldiers risk their lives everyday so that Americans can be free. Soldiers operate and command aircraft ships or armored vehicles. There are many different branches of the military all performing specific duties. Soldiers also must be away from their families for long periods of time and sometimes cannot speak to their families for months leaving their families fearful of their loved one’s life. Also, many veterans suffer from injuries and post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD).
America has got to make a stand for what really matters. Yes, football is a beloved sport in America but what is more important? I believe our teachers, first responders and military should be rewarded financially for their service and dedication to the American people.
